There is a reason why some books are meant to be read at certain points in life. Catcher in the Rye was meant to gain perspective to vulnerable growing pain filled little lives. I kept rolling my eyes at Holden each time he said that something 'killed him'. Many of his self inflicted confusion relates to first world problems yet you sense his struggle to accept and be included. He is vulnerable and oscillates between hiding it and over coming it.
The book itself is well written in a first person narrative.
If I had read it as a struggling-to-stand-out-yet-fit-in teen, I would have attempted to run away or atleast would have elaborate grandeur plans to do so.
