The Little Book Club is the brain child of Doug and Sara Ludlow. In order to help extremely busy parents with cultivating the interest of reading and enriching their children's lives, the Ludlows founded the Little Book Club.

The Little Book Club curates interesting and popular books based on the child's age and in keeping with a theme for the month. It saves parents the time spent in looking for new books, new lessons and fun ways to teach it.

I found a deal on Plum District for The Little Book Club and grabbed it. This monthly service costs a slightly steep $24.95 for a set of three books. The books are amazing, the packaging and presentation is awesome. I snagged this deal for $13 for the first month.

And this is what we got.

This large book mail was addressed to lil O. I tried to show her and tell her that this was for her. She seemed interested enough for a 2 year old. There was a little envelope with her name printed and that was adorable.
The theme for the month of March was 'Days of the Week'. This was perfect because I hadn't gotten to teaching lil O days of the week or months yet.

Let me tell you right away - now she knows some days of the week but not in order yet.

The books
We did not own any of the books here. I usually look at the Best Seller Lists for Tots and on Amazon's Popular Lists for lil O's reading collection. But I never got around to picking up books with a theme in mind. That's where the Little Book Club comes in perfectly. I love that they do the research and curates age appropriate books around a lesson. And I can tell you that it actually works.

Lil O's favorite book amongst these, was Cookie's Week
This book is priced at $5.99 and is the cheapest book in this set. This book traces a cat - Cookie's terrible messes on each day of the week. Lil O and I read this book so easily because so many of things that Cookie does, lil O did. And we laughed while reading this book. And this is the book where lil O got some of the days of the week.
At the most expensive price point in this set, Tuesday at $17 was our least favorite. This book has a bunch of beautifully put together and highly creative pictures of flying frogs. It's nice but I had such a hard time explaining it to lil O.
I really liked this book and I am going to hold it until lil O is old enough to comprehend the imagination this book calls for.
At the end of this book, I asked her if she liked it.

She said, 'Ribbit'.

Since I laughed so hard, now every time she wants to get away with something, she says, 'Ribbit'.
The last book in this set is Today is Monday. This is supposed to be a song, is it? I am not sure. It has a bunch of fun pictures. This book is priced at $6.99.
So these book total at $30, which is more than the $24.95 that they charge on a monthly basis. It is not much of a value deal in my opinion. But - BUT, how much time would you have taken to define a theme, find good books around that theme and then ship them to your door step? That's a huge effort. I should know. Then the feel-good factors of the printed envelope and information card - all of that totals up, you know?

Given that, $24.95 is awesome.

The Little Book Club has good Customer Service as well. The delivery was a little slow and I was not pleased. When I contacted them, the founder (or someone in his stead) Doug responded almost immediately with an explanation and apology. And they also offered us a free month. That is awesome and I look forward to The Little Book Club deliveries.

And Lil O looks forward more to jumping and popping the bubbles on the big bubble wrap that the books come neatly wrapped in.

Wittlebee is a kids' clothing subscription club. Recently to keep with their growing clientele and demand for kids clothing monthly subscription services, they changed their modus operandi from a stylist following your notes and picking your child's clothes to you getting to select half of the items in your box. When your monthly box is due, you will have access to a showroom that allows you to build your box, the rest of the items are selected based on the brand they are currently running with.

We still have a ton of clothes (but that doesn't stop me from buying more) and so I am not an active monthly member but I do stop and shop when they have mystery bags or other flash sales.

Recently I ordered a Jupon dress on one of Wittlebee's flash sales. In the picture below, I ordered the dress on the left but got the dress on the right. I didn't mind the dress that I got but considering that I paid under $7 for it. I let it be.

Picture
Left: Wittlebee online picture Right: Jupon Dress that I got
Couple of days later while I was putting it away, I went ahead and mailed Wittlebee. The very next day they responded and we exchanged couple of quick emails and they shipped the right dress immediately, no charge to me. That was really nice of them.

Every once in a while, Wittlebee puts up a mystery bag sale. I got one for around $19. This is what I got.
Picture
AA Wittlebee onesie, Le Top Sweater, Kissy Kissy onesie and velor dress, Mistee-v-us pants and Rabitmoon dress.
This Le Top sweater is interesting. Lil A can wear it next winter. Somehow I feel that my grandma would love this (and I mean this in a nice way). This is a pricey sweater and this alone would make the price worth it.
This is such a cute little pink dress. It's a little old school in style but adorable on little pig-tailed girls.
This Rabitmoon dress is very pretty. I think this would have to be my favorite in this grab bag. And I know it's expensive.
Below is an AA onesie. I love everything from American Apparel. It shrink slightly in the wash but their material is awesome. When lil O saw this, she asked if the 'Giffaffe' was for her. I shuddered to think that I would have to get one for her too. She let it be. Maybe the jelly bean I immediately gave her distracted her. Maybe.

The pants are Mistee-v-us. I know none of these brands except AA and Le Top. But I hear all good things.
On the left is the Jupon dress that I had originally ordered. That's really cute.
Wittlebee has a Clothes Swap Page on Facebook, where members can meet and swap or sell their new Wittlebee clothes if they didn't like them or have duplicates or doesn't fit right. I have picked up a few nice stuff from there. Here are a few:
Picture
AA shirt, Threadless Constellation tee and Mistee-v-us tee
Picture
I have so many Threadless tees that I couldn't resist getting this one for lil O. It's nice and lil O will love it because it is blue. She is gung-ho about blue now.

And with the influx of pinks right here for both the girls, I picked up some different colors. And Blue and green is great.

Picture
Mim Pi dress
This Mim Pi dress has the cutest details; heart buttons, frills, ribbons but definitely runs small.

Rabitmoon Cardigan
Wittlebee has great value especially if you do not end up with a lot of Wittlebee items and Wittlebee branded items. I really liked some of the clothes that I have been introduced to like Trish Scully, Le Top and Lately Lily. In this set of clothes, I really like Rabbitmoon for the quality of clothes and Mim Pi for their flair.

Now I really have to stop buying more clothes. If you do click on any of the Wittlebee links and sign up, both of us get $10 off.

Thank you to those of you who did sign up!

Goodies Co. is somehow associated with Walmart. It's a monthly subscription where for $7, they will send you 5-7 (mostly) full sized products delivered. You can taste them, review them and buy them on their site.  The subscription service is by invitation only. You go to their site and request an invite. I think my invite took about a month.

I got the February box #7.
A very neat, large box showed up unannounced at my doorstep. I love surprises but I knew what was in the box because there were several spoilers online.
The box was neatly packed with a detailed information card.
Plentils (the name is so off - plentils?!) is a lentils based chips. I liked these. It's gluten free and barely 100 or so calories. Perfect snack for whenever.
I got two sample good sizes of Peanut Butter & Co's flavors - Dark Chocolate Dreams and Peanut Butter. I tried the Dark Chocolate Dreams and it tastes exactly like Peanut Butter with a very very faint hint of Chocolate. Not enough chocolate for my taste.
Now this is Wai Lana, a Banana with dried fruit bar. Sounds Awful, right? And you know what? It was awful. The most awful thing I have ever tried and trust me, I have had semi-cooked snake and squid dishes from local dives in Beijing and this takes the cake. I hated it, in that when I bit into it, I almost threw up. It could not have found the garbage sooner.
I have never seen Snack Wells or their Yogurt Pretzels before. But lil O really liked these.
This is Bacon Pop's Cheddar Bacon Popcorn. I popped this easy to make popcorn in my microwave and it totally stunk it up. This popcorn has a particular smell (not particularly nice though). It just tastes mildly cheddar flavored with some weird seasoning. I didn't get bacon (not that I wanted bacon in my popcorn) and did not like this popcorn at all. I ate some and tossed the rest. BK and lil O didn't like it either.
Chips Ahoy is more or less a constant at our home. So I wasn't thrilled to be seeing this in a subscription box. And Reese is not a favorite in this household - so I wasn't into this either.
So long story short, for $7 a month I think I will try a couple more of the Goodies boxes. In this box the only two things I may buy are the Plentils and Snack Wells. I love Nutella too much to try Peanut Better Co. And the rest were terrible.

We as a family love trying new foods. And if we can find a snack/dish that Lil O would eat without fussing then it's a success.

One such recent success has been Graze Box. Graze.com was started by 7 friends who wanted to get healthy, fun snacks to the doorsteps of people who wanted to live not just happily but healthy too.

They have two types of boxes - Nibble Box (a whole lot of variety of snacks) and Light Box (Low calorie snacks). For $5 a week (you can stop/cancel/postpone), you will get a box of four different snacks to taste and enjoy. The best thing that I like about Graze is that you can go to their site and rate what you think you will like, love or hate. This will ensure that you are never sent things that you know you will hate unless you want to give it a try. And if you love something that you got, then tell them you love it and it will keep coming in your next boxes.

My Graze box took a little long to deliver but usually it takes just a few days.
Picture
I love their box. What can I do with it?
In our first box, we got Billionaire's Shortbread (fudge pieces, blanched almonds, milk chocolate drops, cranberries), Tropical Sundae (pineapple, mango and banana coins), Korean Chili Rice Crackers (spicy chili rice crackers) and Mississippi BBQ Pistachios (roasted pistachios with BBQ seasoning). We loved the Korean Chili Rice Crackers and BBQ Pistachios the best.
This is the best part - Lil O enjoying it without any cajoling, threats or sulks. Thank you Graze

Graze.com is only taking new members by invitation. Click on any of the links here and try your first Graze box for free (I have only 4 more invites left as on 02/11/2013). You can pause or cancel anytime. Your first and every 5th box is free.

Graze away folks. (I earn $1 upto $5 when anyone signs up using my link)

Totally! The most adorable Kid's Lunch bags ever! EVER!

I love the Lunch Bags that they have for kids. The reason I included Skip Hop here, even though I don't own one (yet) was because that's where my search began. (And Gap Lunch Bag seems to be a clear-but-not-quite substitute to Skip Hop.)
Picture
Skip Hop Zebra Lunch Bag (click picture to check out other Skip Hop bags)
I almost bought this adorable Zebra (they have plenty of different creatures) Lunch bag when I stumbled upon this beautiful little girl bag from Dabbawalla Bags.
Picture
Dabbawalla Bags Flower Power II Lunch Bag, Purple/Blue
They have more Dabbawalla bags with different themes, prints and creatures. I liked this best for the moment. I bought this on Amazon (click to see more options) for $24. It is not really insulated and for my purposes, it didn't need to be. The best part (apart from it being oh-so-cute) is that it is washable. It fits plenty of stuff in and my 2 year old lugs it around and has no trouble opening it or getting her stuff out. Getting her to eat that stuff is another matter.
The reason why this bag jumped out at me was the name - Dabbawalla. This literally translates to Tiffin Box Men. Dabbawallas are very popular in Mumbai, India. They are a team who delivers lunches to people. Doesn't sound very interesting, right? The details are that they deliver to millions of people exactly at lunch hour and exactly what they ordered with rarely ever a mistake. Read more about Dabbawallas of Mumbai here
Two sisters head Dabbawalla Bags and the name was inspired by the Tiffin Box men of India. The sister have it right. I love the simple design, vibrant colors and that it is made of biodegradable material.
This Gap lunch bag reminded me so much of the Skip Hop bags and I got a couple for my nephew and Lil A. It's much smaller than the Dabbawalla and Skip Hop Lunch Bags but are pretty.

Next up is some style for a little tough eater - A Tory Burch exclusive for Target.

(Dabbawalla bag fits all these items as well but it's a tight fit.)
Picture
Look at all the junk that I feed my kids fit perfectly in there.
Over the Holidays, I found this Tory Burch Lunch Bag at Target. This is from their Neiman Marcus line. And it was on sale. Who could pass that by? I got it for about $5; it was originally priced at $15 or $19. (Thank you Ramblings of a Suburban Mom!)

I couldn't resist (Yes, very weak will power when it comes to killer deals on kids stuff at Target) and I bought the Thermal Flask as well. The Lunch Bag is very nicely insulated and very spacious.
Picture
So out with the old, reliable, sturdy flask and in with the new, unproven, glamorous one (Hmmm... why does this feel like a scandal?)

I am sure there are many more cute Lunch Bags out there, I just wish they can go their way and not disturb me anymore.

Which is your favorite lunch bag?

Julep was created as a tribute to the girlfriends who tell it like it is. Julep is a monthly Nail Color (and other products too) subscription box. For $19.99 per month, you will receive about $30-50 worth of nail color that suits your style profile. Your style profile is determined with a style quiz that Julep administers when you are all set to be a Julep Maven.

For your introductory box, click here and when you check out, enter JULEPVIP and you will receive your first Julep box for $.01 (shipping of $3.99).

My very sharp and cute Julep box arrived in the mail today. Though I am not a nail paint person, (I would just rather go to my manicurist or leave my nails at unpainted dullness) I love Julep's very stylish package and their nail paint bottles.

Picture
Yes, apparently I am Boho Glam. (Actually I was Classic with a Twist but I liked these colors better)
The difference with the Julep boxes are that they work like Fabkids. They will notify you when your box is selected and you can go online and see it for yourself. If you like it, the wait for shipping begins (very quick delivery). If it's not for you, you can skip a month, you can change it with another style type or you can cancel all together. Always a hit, never a miss? Feels like it!
Picture
Loving their Packaging
The Julep Nail Colors are valued at $14 on their site but discounted to $11.20. The surprise gift included in my Julep box was the Julep Daylight Defense Lip Balm values at $6 but discounted to ~$5. The Julep Essential Cuticle Oil is valued at $18 but discounted to $14.40. So looks like for $4, I got products worth $42. That's awesome. And for a monthly $19.99 (shipping included), the same value of products would be sent to you.

As a Maven, you will have access to their shop, 20% of all the Julep products (they have body scrubs, Jewelry Box, scrub towels, nail treatment products, hand lotion, pedicure treatments and some Julep exclusive nail colors) and free shipping.
I love the Julep nail color bottles - very sleek, handy and different. I am taking my new fav color - 'Michelle' to my nail spa soon (yes, that lazy!).

Go ahead, click on any of the links for Julep here and get your first Nail Color set for just $4 and see if you like it. I may get points when you join.

Oh wait, that was about Love? Not shoes? Same Difference!

Recently I posted this pic with a ton of musings about my daughter. Now I want to pay attention to those lovely pair of shoes.
I love this Marc Jacobs more for it's whimsical and adorable design inside. It's comfortable and perfect for a night out. And I almost did not own it.

I found this pair online. Someone rightly suggested that I would love it. It was available at DSW - Designer Shoe Warehouse. This is an outlet store that offers designer shoes and bags for less than market value. I have picked up a couple of flip flops and such from DSW since we have one a little away from home. I remained on the fence about this store until I found these shoes only at this store.

This pair, I ordered online. I sat on pins and needles until it arrived. Giddy with excitement I tried them on. I was no Cinderella. The shoes did not fit my giant feet.

I ordered this pair with the upcoming Venture Photography shoot in mind and I figured it was an easy fix. But Murphy struck. I went to the DSW at Paramus, NJ. Unfortunately they did not have it in store and offered to order one online for me.

Obviously there wouldn't be a post had it not been the hardest experience ever. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. A lovely young man - Jim offered to help me. He stayed on the phone with DSW Customer Care for atleast an hour (maybe more) waiting for them to find the right pair, the right size and place an order. All the while I stood there, being the object of silent glares of shoppers waiting in line.

The store manager - Jill watched. Towards the end of that endless call, she stepped up and took over the call. She politely asked the customer care folks to kindly over-night the pair to me, in time for our photo shoot because 'this poor lady has grown roots at my store.' I did not ask them to do that (even though I wanted to) because swallowing his impatience, piling work and hunger pangs (this poor guy had dinner delivered to him amidst all this) Jim waited patiently and politely with me, never hanging up despite the on-hold delays.

BK had abandoned me there since lil O has the patience of a bulldog (I have no idea if bulldogs are patient or not, it just fits right in that sentence). Jill gave me her phone to curse BK out and ask him to 'drop everything and come get me right now' (Murphy ensured that my phone died on me as well).

Look at how beautiful this picture turned out - the shoes give it a lovely uplift too.

I had my heart set on that pair. I had my heart warmed by Jim and Jill. I can't thank them enough for helping me that night. DSW at Paramus, NJ for all your shoe cravings and nicest folks.

You know those ads that keep popping up every once in a while that says 'Buy four Disney books for just $4.99, free shipping and get free calendar/bag/activity book and add two more for just $.99'?
It always rings as phishing to me until I saw it on Plum District. And as usual I bit.

I am glad I did - I came away with an amazing mouth full. I bought two sets - one the Disney and Dr. Seuss set.

Early Moments is a kids' Book Club. On a monthly basis (after the purchase of your first discounted set), they will send you a selection of three books for about $19 (includes shipping and handling). You can skip a month, cancel your membership or schedule lag times for delivery. This is awesome because lil O is not at a reading level that matches the Disney or Dr. Seuss books yet. I can see myself get on this club eventually. But for now I have identified book clubs/stores that I like. Look at the book sets I got.

I really like the books that Early Moments have. Apparently these books are created just for the club; you would get the same stories everywhere but this format and size of the book is exclusive to Early Moments. Obvious from the pictures should be that we love the Dr. Seuss books more.

We love the books but we are paused until lil O can read or can sit still long enough for me to read to her. Happy Reading!

Our second Sweet Pea box came this weekend. We got some new brands to try and some standard good quality clothes.

Picture
Bellinni - $35
You shouldn't be surprised anymore to know that I haven't heard of this brand - Bellinni nor of Bebe Bella Designs. Ha! But I really like the print on this tunic. I also like how it is 'proudly made in the USA'! When I first saw the outfit, I wasn't sure about it because the tunic reminded me of the Indian kurtas. Not that, that's a bad thing at all just that I can get amazing kurtas in India. It's only after Heather noted did I realize the value of this brand. This tunic is on Zulily for $24 (as of 01/20/2013). Expensive or not, it's a pretty outfit.
Picture
Gymboree shirt and Old Navy Skirt - $9
This is my least favorite Gymboree shirt. It is great quality but the colors and horizontal stripes throws me. I have pajamas from Gymboree that look like this and maybe that's why.

The pants are Polo. I am on the fence with this one. I used to have various faded gray denims. I used to like them. I think I need one right now. Even then, for Lil O, I think this will look like a boy's pants. Not because it's gray but because of the way it looks. Maybe I can infuse something pink or indigoandviolet into it. Maybe I am over thinking this and need to leave it be. Yes, that's it.

This is a Gymboree shirt. I got an Old Navy denim skirt. I put a carter's tights to make an outfit. Let me just come clean and say that I snub Old Navy. I do not know why. I haven't tried children's clothes from them despite receiving some nice ones as gifts. But this denim skirt is something I like because it's a standard, very light skirt and it's good play-wear  now that I actually think about it.

Sweet Pea Box
So this is what we got this month. I am not as thrilled as the first time but I did get more than I paid for ($40). As always the customer service is great over their email or Sweet Pea on Facebook

If you wish to get on the Sweet pea Box subscription, you can mail customerservice@sweetpeabox.com and cross your fingers. They will mail you as soon as they have a Sweet Pea Spot ready for you.

When you do mail them, if you indicate indigoandviolet, I may get something. for the referral (I believe they are still ironing out their options).

Check out our first Sweet Pea Box.

I wouldn't know where to start with Lately Lily. I just simply adore their idea for this line of clothing and their T-shirts are simply beautiful. Ok, they are not just simply beautiful; they are incredible.

I was introduced to Lately Lily when I got my first Wittlebee box and I have been in love with Lately Lily since then.

Their character, the adorable Lily here is the globe-trotting daughter of a photographer and writer for the International Exposition (Definitive Journal of Global Curiosity). Read more about her on Lately Lily. Lily travels to places and her T-shirts show depictions of the places she has been to, people she met and what she is feeling lately.

I love this about them.

Picture
Lately Lily from Wittlebee
Their tees are pretty nice - cotton, casual, fun with amazing graphics. Take a look at the tags - how adorable is that? When lil O saw the picture of lil Lily on this tag, and that's all she wanted.
Picture
Shy Lily tee
I won the Shy Lily Tee (pictured above) on their facebook page for a giveaway they held. And now this is one of my favorite tees. Like I always say, why oh why do they not make one of these in my size?
This company has some really fun and creative people (this is from my interactions with them on Facebook and mail during the giveaway contest).  Check out Lately Lily's blog - Sunny Yellow Dispatch.

You can shop for the Lately Lily tees here. You will absolutely love their designs. I have my eyes set on this Just Start tee
Picture
from Lately Lily.com
They do have plans to feature long sleeve tees and something equally adorable for boys.

Every once in a while Lately Lily goes on some sort of a sale on their site and on Zulily
